About Helen Carter
A small Swindon practice for people who work from vans, yards and kitchen tables.
I started Revenue Minutes in 2007 after years of sorting supplier ledgers for local contractors who were brilliant on site and permanently behind on paperwork. The practice has stayed deliberately small because regular bookkeeping is better when the person asking the question remembers the answer from last month.

How The Practice Works
Calm Reminders, Short Calls And Notes You Can Use
I try to make bookkeeping feel less like a pile and more like a route. Questions are short. Reminders are calm. Monthly notes say what has been dealt with, what is still missing and what matters before the next VAT quarter or payroll run.
There is no jargon unless it is legally unavoidable. If the phrase matters, I will explain it. If it does not help you make a decision, it does not belong in the email.
Local Radius
Swindon First, Remote When The Feeds Are Tidy
In-person work is limited to Swindon, Royal Wootton Bassett, Highworth, Marlborough, Cirencester, Chippenham and within roughly 25 miles of SN1. Beyond that, work is remote only.
Remote work is fine for clients already comfortable with bank feeds, scanned receipts and short email replies. Paper records can be dropped off on Tuesdays between 9:30am and 12:00pm by appointment. Originals are scanned and returned within 14 working days.
Tools And Habits
Software Is Useful Only When The Routine Is Better
- Preferred software: Xero, QuickBooks Online and FreeAgent.
- Spreadsheets accepted for very small sole traders when bank statements are complete.
- Scanner routine for paper records, with Tuesday appointment drop-offs.
- Monthly email summary that names missing receipts, owner questions and next dates.
- Accountant-ready packs prepared for the qualified accountant who signs the accounts.
Small By Choice
Not Every Enquiry Should Become A Client
Revenue Minutes does not try to be a general accountancy firm. I do bookkeeping, CIS, VAT preparation, small payroll and rescue tidy-ups for trades and single van businesses. I do not sign statutory accounts or corporation tax returns in-house, and I do not take work where the owner will not explain missing takings or deposits.
Staying small protects the clients already here. It means reminders go out when they should, VAT quarters are not treated like surprises, and the person rebuilding the ledger knows which supplier name always causes trouble.
